Gears are used for transmitting power from one gearbox shaft to another and to either increase, decrease or maintain speed and torque. Note that a speed increase results in a decrease in torque and a torque increase results in a decrease in speed. A Manual gearbox is designed with selectable pairs of gears that can be engaged and locked
filexlib. In a transmission box, four components are required to fulfil its function. 1. Countershaft: A countershaft is a shaft that connects with the clutch shaft directly. It contains the gear which connects it to the clutch shaft as well as the main shaft. It may be run at the engine speed or at lower than engine speed according to gear ratio.
The input shaft is what comes from the engine, into the gearbox, via the clutch and flywheel. It is the raw source of rotational power as generated by the crankshaft within the engine. This feeds into the gearbox and drives the gears that will ultimately drive the wheels, but that power has to make a few more stops first. Layshaft
Second speed gear: By operating the gear shift lever, the larger gear of the main shaft is disengaged from the first gear of the countershaft, and then the smaller gear of the main shaft meshes with the second gear of the countershaft. In the second speed gear, the main shaft and the clutch shaft rotate in the same direction.
